My Something Happened Story…

05 September 2017

Something happened… I put on this dress and i felt like a princess- or better yet, a true and proper “southern belle”.  One usually feels that way when a dress blows perfectly in the wind.  But most importantly, it was the first time I’d ever been out in public in something sleeveless.  EVER!   Showing my arms is something that I just don't do but I knew that it would never do this eShakti dress any justice if I put a on jacket over it.    So with a lot of encouragement from my fellow bloggers friends, something happened…

Weekending With the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage

22 August 2017

When Mitsubishi contacted me to test drive and review their subcompact 2017 Mirage GT, I was admittedly a little less than enthused and a little nervous. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a cute little car but when you are plus size, a subcompact car can be a little scary. Whenever I was in the market for a new car I would always opt for a full size sedan or an SUV because I knew they will be roomy, I would fit comfortably and be able to comfortably ride my friends who are more often than not, plus size too. But, I wanted my plus size readers to know about more affordable car options so I took the challenge and test drove the Mitsubishi Mirage GT for a week in Atlanta while attending The Curvy Fashionista StyleExpo

When I first saw the car, I completely fell in love with the Wine Red color.  It was deeper than red but more interesting than burgundy. The MSRP for this car is around 16,000 and it gets 37 miles to the gallon in the city and 43 on the highway. I'm beginning to love this little car already!

Looks, check!
Affordability, check!
Now let's check out the comfort... This would definitely be the true test.
I was pleasantly surprised! I rode around in this car all over Atlanta, alllll weekend long and I wasn't uncomfortable one bit. The seatbelt fit just fine, the seat was tooshie-friendly and I was able to fit other passengers even with the seat pushed all the way back.  They even had plenty of leg room.

One thing that totally set this car apart from others is the auto connect with the Smartphone Link Display Audio System. I works with AndroidAudio and AppleCarplay.  It gives tons of access to apps for music and navigation right on the display that was touchscreen!  No need no need to buy an extra charger or hook up an auxiliary port!  The wireless system automatically connects, so within seconds I was jamming my favorite tunes!  Plus, this little baby has a big sound that bumps. It even has a rearview camera, heated front seats and cruise control!

We had so much fun in this car and it took us all around Atlanta and back home again safely. The only cons that I could think of would be that the horn isn't very loud which necessary for high traffic areas and there isn't an armrest in the front seat. The trunk is compact but I think that this car would be perfect for a college student or an older single person.

The biggest Pro is definitely the gas mileage. When it came time to return the car, I wanted to return it the same way that it came to me which was on a full tank of gas. I kept telling myself that I'm just going to put $25 in this tank.  That would be enough to get home and to leave the car on at least 3/4 of a tank. I guess I was thinking that I was in my own car which is much bigger. Imagine my shock and amazement when the gas started spraying back out of the tank at $16! $16!?!?!  I was literally SHOOKETH!  That was for a full tank! That alone definitely has me rethinking my options when it comes to my next car. For me to fill up my own car, it's about $40 and that's with gas prices being a lot lower than they used to be. lol

Thank you to Mitsubishi for allowing me to test drive this adorable little car and give my feedback. I enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to change my mind about compact cats.  If you are in the market for a new car that is affordable, great looking, good on gas, and equipped with fresh technology, I definitely recommend taking a look at the Mitsubishi Mirage GT!

I Finally Started Watching True Blood...

01 August 2017

Hinesville, GA, USA

I am an avid TV watcher!  I especially enjoy binge watching TV.  There's just something about not having to watch those commercials!   I almost never watch a TV show when it is live.  That being said, True Blood is a show that I've always wanted to watch.

The death of beloved actor Nelsan Ellis over the weekend totally reminded me that I had always wanted to go back and watch it just to see what all the fuss was about.  I remember when that show was on air and it had everyone addicted.  I never tuned in because I always felt like I was late to the game.

So I recently started with Season 1 and now I'm almost done with Season 3.  I can say the Lafayette (Ellis' character) is my favorite character with Tara being a close second.  I also really like Jessica too. I'm curious to find out more about the dynamic between Tara and her mother. Blame the sociologist in me, ok?   I see that relationship takes the lead in later seasons and I'm intrigued.

Were you a True Blood fan? Who is your favorite character?  Most importantly, why didn't you guys tell me how ANNOYING Sookie Stackhouse is?!?!?

What show are you binge watching now?

OK, Cut Tariq from Power Some Slack

18 July 2017

Georgia, USA

Okay we've got to cut to Tariq some slack!  Wait wait wait, let me explain!  For those of you who watch Power on Staz religiously like I do, it has been so frustrating during the past season and the past few weeks of this season to watch Tariq spiral into being an angry little brat.  I mean even I have posted about how much this kid sucks.  But I think that we have to remember one thing,  Tariq's attitude is a product of Ghost's decisions.

One:  We have to respect the fact that Tariq is a child and that he is still angry about his father abandoning his mother.  Even though you only have one life to live and you should do the things that make you happy, your choices ALWAYS  have consequences.  OF COURSE his actions were going to come with some repercussions regarding his children.

Two:  This is also a result of trying to live in two different worlds.  Ghost is a drug dealer from the streets but he did not want to raise his family in that lifestyle so he has one foot in one world and the other foot in another world.  With that being said, Tariq was not raised with that streetwise mentality of "family before everything".  He's understandably acting out in the only way that he knows how and that's by being an angry little brat.  Call me a softy, but I'm still waiting on him to have his shining moment!

Have you been watching Power the season? Tell me your thoughts about how frustrating it is to watch Tariq this season.

Universal Pictures - Girls Trip NO SPOILERS **GIVEAWAY CLOSED**

11 July 2017

Being a blogger definitely has its perks!  A couple of weeks ago during #BlogHer17, I was given the opportunity to watch the film, Girls Trip about a month before it being available to the General Public.  The showing was a part of a special sponsored event from Universal Studios and exclusively for  #BlogHer17 attendees.  Ever since I saw the first trailer for this movie months ago, I've been super excited and was definitely planning to see it on opening weekend.  However, I was lucky enough to get to see it early with all my #BloggerBoos!

The film (scheduled to be released on July 21, 2017 by Universal Pictures) is directed by Malcolm D. Lee and stars Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, Larenz Tate and Mike Colter.  It's about a group of four women who were best friends in college but because of life's circumstances have separated for a while.  They come together again to go for an amazing and well overdue girls trip to the annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The film was HILARIOUS but it also had an amazing message.  During the movie it did not take me long to see why it was chosen for the #BlogHer17 audience.  I'm NOT going to give away any spoilers but I will say that I definitely recommend the film to not only young women but especially to creatives, online personalities and influencers.  The movie has strong themes of friendship, finding your true voice and creating an authentic personality which can be difficult when you are essentially presenting YOURSELF as a brand.

Because I'm soooo excited about this film and I know that you will enjoy it, I'm going to give away a free ticket to see the film!  I'm going to randomly choose someone from the comment section of this post to send a code for a free ticket through Fandango!  Allllll you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me about your best girls trip or about a girls trip that you would like to take in the future and also leave me your email address so I can contact you! (For a SECOND entry, you can SHARE the Facebook post that brought you here!) The contest ends next Wednesday (July 19, 2017) at noon and I will be announcing the winner that same Wednesday around 8 PM ET.  That way you'll have plenty of time to snag your ticket before opening weekend, July 21st.

Good luck and I am looking forward to hearing about your girls trips!

Congratulation, Shelia Augusta! You won! I will email you with your code for a free ticket to see Girls Trip this weekend! Thanks for playing!
