So excited to be heading to beautiful St. Simon's Island to attend the North Meets South Fundraiser this weekend for T.A.L.I.C.A.:  The Teaching & Learning Initiative for Central America!

TALICA: The Teaching and Learning Initiative for Central America

Here's a little more about the organization's vision and mission from Founding Director, Sue Wortzel:
"The creation of TALICA came after a solo journey I took in the summer of 2006. I flew into Guatemala City and made my way by bus, taxi, boats, and walking to Costa Rica. I explored many different small communities and being a teacher myself, I was most interested in the public schools and the experiences teachers and students had in these countries. I found myself in some incredible places of learning despite little or no resources...  The rest is history! To date we have hand delivered over 5000 text books, co-founded a community center, and developed a small scholarship fund."

Sue Worttzel was kind enough to send some pictures from last year's event and promises that this one will be just as amazing!

When I first heard about Maison de Macaron I wondered how a shop could sustain itself by just selling one type of cookie. Broughton Street (and its surrounding streets) is uber popular and a tourist destination and I'm sure it isn't cheap to stay there. Then. I. Tasted. Their. Macarons! They speak up for themselves. I've always seen these cookies up and down Instagram timelines and I wondered if these cookies were as tasty as they were beautiful. Tons of bloggers use them as the focal point of their fashion photos because of their bright and colorful hues. When I found out that Savannah had a bakery devoted solely to these little delights, I just had to check it out. I was NOT disappointed. The staff was very friendly but the service was very quick. I suppose she had to hurry up and get back to making those delicious cookies.

I tried the following flavors:

SALTED CARAMEL
MADAGASCAR VANILLA
CHOCOLATE GANACHE
CHOCOLATE-COVERED STRAWBERRY
MEYER LEMON
PISTACHIO
BANANAS FOSTER
BOURBON PECAN

Bourbon Pecan, Meyer Lemon and Bananas Foster were my favorites but they were all amazing. These cookies are more expensive than your traditional cookies but they are definitely worth it. Since my visit, I have searched for Macarons that compare since Savannah is about a 40 minute drive. I've gone to a couple of bakeries and have even tried the Macarons in the freezer section of my local Walmart. Nothing compares. I'll definitely be making my way back to Maison de Macaron very soon.

Another great time on Georgia Southern University campus with the first Job Fair of the year!  Several companies came out to represent their brands and hopefully recruit some new & fresh talent.   Business such as Lowe’s, Southern Growlers, Sizemore, Parker’s and even departments on GSU’s very own campus were in attendance.

Last Saturday I went for a beer tasting and factory tour of Service Brewing Co in Savannah Ga.  This company is veteran owned and takes pride in honoring rider who have served their country and community.  I had a great time learning about their history and the process of making their beers. Each tour comes with a beautiful souvenir glass, 13 samples of their unique craft beers and a chance to sign the "service wall". Check out mine below.  Tours are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Check out their website for times and for other featured events.
