Last weekend I scooped up my mom, (my usual riding partner) and headed down to Jekyll Island for the Shrimp & Grits Festival. So many awesome vendors and restaurants gathered together to offer up some of their best versions of the popular southern meal.
I didn't stay there long so I only got to try one place :( .....but what I got to try was spectacular! I got in line (a very long line at that...lol) at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. They served sauteed shrimp and cheese grits with sausage and gravy. Delicious! Plus, the grits were thick and cheesy just like I like them.... mmm.. I questioned the fact that it was served with a French breadstick but it all made sense to me when I used it to sop up that extra gravy goodness! lol
The festival was super well organized and had an awesome turnout. Hundreds piled in to participate in all of the fun despite the heat. Luckily, every now and then a delightful breeze would come through. Southern Living Magazine even set up there along with several other sponsors and there was even a craft brew competition! Before I left I just had to get a popsicle from my favorite guys, King of Pops! I tried the chocolate sea salt. Those popsicles with their unique flavors are so great and they are always right on time on a hot day. I'll definitely be back next year!
Until next time...
