3 Simple Reasons Why You Need A Girl Gang

Some of us are lucky enough to make friends with ease. We may have met our best friend when we were young or through another circumstance that did not really require much effort on our behalf. However, for others, making friends can be superrrr difficult, especially if you are shy, quiet or have been hurt by people before.  I feel like the older you get, it becomes even harder to make friends.  Adult circumstances play a part like: moving, starting another job, starting a family, etc.  Sometimes you may feel like you simply just don’t want to make friends. But it is important that you do so- every woman needs her girl-gang.  Read on and let’s talk about why…

Friends can boost your longevity and health - There is only one place to begin, and this is with the positive impact that friendships can have on our health. In fact, there have been a number of studies that have proven that friendships can result in happier and healthier lives when compared with people who do not have any close friends. Friends help build our emotional intelligence and teach us the value of letting our guards down for a moment.

True friends will give you a reality check - Another benefit of having a true friend is that they will give you a reality check when you need one. We all get into those moments where we are behaving/operating in self-destructive patterns. This could mean anything from being rude or being a walkover. A true friend will be there to give you a reality check, which you may not like at the time, but will benefit you going forward.  My “girl gang” is great for snapping me back into the reality when I’m about to cross over into the deep end!

Friends are there to lift you up - Last but not least, if you are feeling down or you are going through a difficult time, a friend is there to lift you up and make you feel good about yourself. It can be easier to get through tough times when you have got a good friend by your side.  I can’t even begin to tell you about all of the times I’ve had a bad day and just a long chat with one of my homegirls can get me back to feeling good!  You can read up on how to make friends if this is something you struggle with. Once you have a good friend by your side, you will have some moral support through all of the hurdles that life throws at you.

There are many different reasons why healthy friendships are important. However, it is critical to note the word ‘healthy’ - it is all about building genuine friendships, which are mutually beneficial. You should not be friends with someone who is just using you or brings you down.

Until Next Time...

  1. I have been thinking A LOT about this very topic! I miss having a girl gang to talk to and spend time with. Over time, we all somewhat separated. This was one of the main reasons I joined a sorority in college, along with volunteering on a larger scale. However, after college we all spread out in different parts of the state/country and like you mentioned..adult life just got in the way. With the New Year under way I made it a point to forgive those who've wronged me and move on as well as connect with some I called friends long ago. The experience has been a good one, but I still feel lacking in the friend dept. I am grateful for blogging, though! A lot of people that I connect with I have actually met online through blogging and sharing my life's story (and them, doing the same). I never discredit long distance/online friendships..they are just as important to me too. Awesome post as always and such a beautiful girl gang you have!

    1. Yeah, I've been reflecting on this topic a lot too. I used to be the girl with a ton of friends. Now that I'm older, I've got a lot fewer and making friends is sooooo hard! I have made some great ones through blogging that I'll love forever! Those are my bloggerbaes! lol Thanks for commenting!
