A great smile can honestly work wonders. Not only can it make you appear more attractive, younger, and more approachable, but it can also boost your mood, even when you’re at your lowest. Smiles are also known to be contagious, which means that, when you smile, you can help others around you feel a lot happier too. The only issue is that far too many people are embarrassed to smile, because of the look of their teeth. Here are six tips to remedy this issue.

It's All About The Teeth: 6 Ways To Get A Better Smile, The Low Country Socialite, Plus Size Blogger, Savannah Georgia, Hinesville Georgia

1. Use The Right Technique
We all know that we should brush our teeth twice a day. It’s a lesson that we were taught when we were very young and is one that we’re also reminded of every time we visit the dentist. However, there’s much more to brushing your teeth than just doing it. You need the right technique, which entails holding your brush at a 45-degree angle in back and forth motions.

2. Wash Your Mouth Out
Mouthwash should be used as a supplement to brushing, rather than a replacement for it. If you choose the right one and use it as the bottle recommends, then it can help to prevent cavities and gum problems, as well as keep your breath fresher for longer. Research has suggested that mouthwash containing alcohol increases the risk of mouth cancer, so avoid using these types.

3. Steer Clear Of Red
Everyone likes to enjoy a drink now and then, but, if wine is your tipple of choice, then you should probably steer clear of the reds. This is because red wine can cause stains, which leads to discolored or dull teeth in the long term. Drinking white wine won’t have these effects, keeping your teeth a pearly white. If you can't give up the red stuff, then use water to swill out your mouth.

4. Kick Your Smoking Habit
Smoking cigarettes is another unhealthy habit that can stain your teeth, leaving them a yellowish color. People who smoke are also at a higher risk of developing gum disease, as they are more likely to produce bacterial plaque. In the worst case, this could cause you to lose some of your teeth. It won’t be easy, but it is sensible to kick your smoking habit to avoid these effects.

5. Upgrade Your Old Fillings
When you have silver fillings, they can stand out whenever you yawn or laugh, potentially causing embarrassment. This type of filling has also been known to wear out quickly, which would leave your teeth vulnerable to decay. For this reason, you should consider upgrading your old fillings. The new ones look more natural and are much better at bonding to your teeth.

6. Get Some Professional Help
Visiting the dentist isn’t fun, but it is a necessary part of oral care. Unless you want expensive dental issues to deal with, you need to attend checkups at least twice a year. During these appointments, you will receive preventative treatments, like a clean and polish. If you’re facing a dental emergency, you should book an appointment now, rather than waiting for your next one.

With the advice above, you should have no trouble improving the look of your smile.

Is there anything better than throwing off the burdens of everyday life, and setting forth on an adventure? Whether it’s taking a trip into nature or enjoying all the possibilities of the world’s best cities, there’s nothing that’ll make you fall in love with life again quite like exploring a new and perhaps even your same corner of the globe. However, while your chances of having a fun time are high, it’s not guaranteed. It’s best to take some tips that’ll help bring the adventure and limit the chances of something going wrong, too.

Know Thy Destination...To a Point

There is something to be said for wandering around in a destination and just figuring out things while you’re there, but it’s possible that this only really works if you’re visiting a destination where it’s impossible not to have a fun time (such as, say, New York) or if you’ve got a really outgoing, adventurous personality. In most cases, it’s best to read up on your destination before you set sail, at least a little bit -- it’s about understanding the general vibe of the place, not knowing it inside out before you’ve even landed.

Make a List

There is a lot of fun in simply going with the flow, but if you take this approach, you’ll need to be prepared to go all in -- which means being OK with missing out on certain things which, you know, require some planning. If you’re not prepared to miss out on everything, then make a list of the places you want to see and visit before you leave. You’ll may want to avoid making a strict itinerary -- sometimes it’s better to have no schedule rather than one that accounts for every second -- but simply having a list of places you want to visit will provide a solid anchor for a great trip.

In Case Something Goes Wrong

Even when you take all the precautions in the world, there’s always a chance that something will go wrong. To ensure that your travel plans aren’t totally ruined by an injury, accident, or just a minor medical concern, it’s important that you know the location of drug stores or even the hospitals in your destination, especially if it’s in a more remote area. It’s also recommended to take a read of travel insurance reviews, so that you have a policy that adequately covers any costs incurred from something going wrong. You’ll hope everything goes to plan, but will be glad you took precautions if they don’t!  Make sure you’re aware of anything that might disrupt your traveling. Bring Comfy Clothes
Whenever I travel, I like to make sure I bring comfy clothes. Unless I'm traveling for a fashion event, I try to be as comfortable as possible and make sure that I bring clothes that are weather appropriate and that I don't feel I have to wear tight girdles underneath. The best options are clothes that are customizable like this dress from Unicorn Samshek. I sent over my measurements and in a week I had a perfectly fitting dress that was comfy and stylish enough to dress down with tennis shoes for walking or up with cute sandals for brunch. I like clothes that you can style different ways so you can pack less in your suitcase or overnight bag.

Jewelry is about more than looking good. Often, family members pass it down from generation to generation, so accessories can definitely have sentimental value.  It was important to my mother that she gift me with a dinner ring when I graduated college.  It was all she talked about during my final exams.  I also inherited a good bit of my grandmother’s jewelry after her death. Although I don’t wear these items everyday, it was crucial that I learned how to keep them safe. Not only do they remind me of people that I love, but they encourage me to want to continue the tradition one day. Unfortunately, it’s hard to maintain them when they are shoved in a box and stored out of sight so, instead of dragging them out and giving them a once over with a feather duster, I reply on these tips.

4 Ways to Keep Family Heirlooms Preserved, Low Country Socialite, Plus Size Blogger, Savannah Georgia, Hinesville Georgia

Below are the tips on how to preserve your heirlooms:

Put Them On Display

The worst thing you can do is stick them in a corner in the basement or attic as they’ll get dusty and collect mildew. Once the combination of moisture and air hits the jewelry’s surface, the material will start to erode. A smart move is to put them on display in your house so that they aren’t left to rot.  I actually like for all my pieces (costume and heirloom) to be where I can see them.  Sometimes I’ll splurge on fancy racks or simply pin my necklaces to the wall.  This reminds me that I have them and encourages me to wear them more.  You can use a silver tarnish cloth to protect them as well.   Don’t put them under glass or near a reflective surface. The rays from the sun will intensify and they can burn holes through the most sturdy of substances.

Buy A Humidifier

Jewelry needs storing in a cool, dry place where the humidity isn’t too high. Otherwise, they will erode. Finding a dry place is easy enough as every house has drafts, but the cool part is tricky. After all, it has to be the right level to ensure they don’t rust.  Luckily, we purchased a humidfier last year when the fireplace was making their air in our home too dry.  A humidifier is a perfect solution as it allows you to control the moisture in the air. By setting it to a fixed level, there is no need to worry about the composition of the atmosphere and, therefore, any damage to your items.

Don’t Wrap Them In Biodegradables

Everyone wants to save the planet but you also want to preserve your heirlooms. With that in mind, a smart move is to avoid biodegradable storage containers. /Over time, the damp and the air will wear away at cardboard or wood and leave your valuables exposed. The same goes for cloths too.  I usually wipe off any excess oils and slip my accessories into a plastic sandwich baggie and store them away if they are not in use or on display. A savvy move is to vacuum pack and place them in poly sheets. For the conservationists among the readership, you can replace the latter with acid-free boxes and tissue paper.

Never Use Chemicals

To a clean a dirty heirloom, you’ll be tempted to reach for the bleach as it gets rid of marks and stains. Unfortunately, it’s too strong and will eat away at the precious materials. If you do need to clean a piece of jewelry, make sure you use non-harmful chemicals. For example, toothpaste works great for polishing silver and gold. Also, evaluate whether it even needs a wipe down. Sometimes, the spots aren’t removable and they are just a result of natural disintegration. Don’t worry, though. According to experts, they don’t negatively impact the value and are simply a sign of age.

What special heirloom have you received that is special to you?  Tell me in the comments!

When it comes to taxes, money in your pocket is better than money in the pocket of the Internal Revenue Service. In order to save on your tax bill, it is helpful to be as informed as possible about the laws and the process. Here are some ways to reduce your bill this tax season.

Get All the Deductions That You Can

Deductions exist literally so you can save money. When there is a possible deduction that you can take but do not, you are giving away money to the IRS. You should read the instructions for the Schedule A closely to figure out the entire range of deductions that you can take. Study the tax laws in effect to see if it's possible to itemize your deductions and donations to charity. Even mileage that you drive on your car can help cut the amount that you owe in taxes. Consider everything that you do in your daily life and compare it against the list of allowable deductions to see what you can take.

Double Check Your W-4 Allowances

It is a fact of life that people grow older. Not only do your children grow, but your parents and other relatives can also age. As your children reach a certain age, they can no longer be claimed as dependents. Conversely, relatives for whom you care may be claimed as dependents. Double-checking your allowances can save you money on your taxes. In order to figure out what the tax implications are for changing dependents, you can always check out the IRS' withholding calculator.

Save for College and Retirement

The tax code encourages taxpayers to save money for various purposes by allowing certain contributions to be made from pre-tax dollars. For example, you can contribute to an individual retirement account from pre-tax dollars as well as 529 plans for your children's college education. This has the effect of building your savings and lowering the amount of taxes that you pay. Contributions that are made before December 31 count to reduce your tax burden in that particular year. As you get older, you can even make additional contributions to your retirement that can further reduce your tax burden.

While taxes are one of the two certainties in life, they can be managed to the extent that you are able. Proper planning and forethought can help reduce what you owe.

Here are a couple of articles that discuss mental health and finances we think you’ll enjoy!

Clear, beautiful skin doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of great skin care using top products that deliver the benefits you’re looking for. If a fresh-looking face with a smoother complexion is your goal, here are three ingredients you need to know about. Once you do, you'll probably want to add them to your skincare routine today.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Alpha hydroxy acids have been used as exfoliants since the days of Cleopatra. They gently peel away the dead cells on the top layer of the skin, making way for new, younger-looking cells to grow. DermNet NZ further explains, “hydroxy acids loosens the glue-like substances that hold the surface skin cells to each other, therefore allowing the dead skin to peel off gently. The skin underneath has a fresher, healthier look with a more even colour and texture. With high concentration and long-term use, alpha hydroxy acids may also affect the deeper layers of the skin. Collagen and elastin regenerate making fine lines less obvious.”

Alpha hydroxy acids were once prescription-only products, but now they are available over the counter. They're your best bet for smoothing wrinkles and rough skin or lightening unwanted pigmentation.

Vitamin C

Everyone’s skin is composed of hundreds of vitamins and nutrients, and making sure that it has what it needs to be healthy is of utmost importance. Belli Skincare explains, “vitamin C brightens and helps to even out skin tone.” It’s one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, and it protects the skin against oxidative stress that can damage it prematurely.

Topical Vitamin C is different from the Vitamin C found in orange juice. It comes in several forms, and of them, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, or MAP, is the most stable and effective. Formulas containing up to 20 percent MAP are ideal. A larger percentage isn’t necessarily better.

Good quality Vitamin C creams and serums can be found on drugstore shelves, but high-end formulas tend to be sold by dedicated skincare companies and dermatologists. There’s been much research done, and it’s been found that Vitamin C can help keep people looking young by repairing damage done by the sun, assisting in treating skin condition like eczema, and aiding in the production of collagen, carnitine, steroids, and other beneficial elements. Some research suggests that Vitamin C works better when combined with Vitamin E. Since Vitamin E is beneficial for the skin in its own right, a product that contains both is ideal.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid is not an alpha hydroxy acid. It’s a natural chemical made right in your body. Like Vitamin C, it neutralizes free radicals that contribute to fine wrinkles, dark spots on the skin and other signs of aging. The Skin Careless explains, “ALA is both fat- and water-soluble, meaning that it’s easily absorbed through the lipid layers of your skin and works well as a free-radical fighter in the cell plasma membrane. Further, ALA is 400 times stronger than Vitamins E and C combined (both of which are renowned for their antioxidant properties).”

Alpha lipoic acid is available in over-the-counter and specialty creams, but studies show it may be even more effective when taken as an oral supplement. If you opt for a cream, choose a brand in an opaque container. This ingredient degrades when exposed to the sunlight that can filter through glass jars.

Extraordinary skin is no mystery. It’s a combination of various factors from genetics to diet to lifestyle, but using the right ingredients and the best quality products as part of a commitment to good skin health is a step everyone can take.

Personally, I spend a LOT of amount of time indoors. I work from home, about eight to ten hours a day. I sleep for another eight. I also spend leisure time inside, watching tv and scrolling through social media while watching Netflix, both at the same time, without ever giving either one our full and undivided attention.. Also, any free time that I have to go out is usually spent inside of a building, restaurant or some venue.

I, like most people are also stressed out. We’re tired and overworked. We’re struggling to sleep or even relax at the end of the day. We’re facing mental health issues, our moods are all over the place, and our relationships fail. Stress, the divorce rate, reported loneliness and depression are at an all-time high. Are these two things related? Could we reduce our stress-levels, improve our mental health and boost our mood, if we just spent more time outside? Here are just some of the ways that the great outdoors could improve your mood.

Nature is Great for Perspective

There’s a reason that animals are used in therapy like Equine Therapy. Nature, animals, plants, flowers, scenery, and everything that comes with it calms us. It helps us to focus and settle. Nature, the vastness of the space and the beauty all around us has a great way of putting our issues into perspective, which can help us to focus and find solutions, or even just to let the small stuff go.

Vitamin D Booster

Many of us suffer from seasonal affective disorder, or sad. This is when we get depressed in the winter. As though the weather is literally bringing down our mood. There are a few different causes of sad, but one of them is a lack of vitamin D, due to a lack of sunlight as we spend all of our time cooped up indoors.

Unlike most other vitamins, vitamin D isn’t found in high quantities in any food, so it’s hard to replicate. Get outside, soak up some vitamin D and perhaps your risks of depression could be drastically reduced. Even in the summer, if you are spending all of your time inside, and away from a natural light source, you could find that your mood is affected.

Exercise and All the Benefits that Come with It

Sitting behind a desk all day isn’t great for burning calories. If you spend all of your time indoors, you might struggle with weight and fitness levels. Getting outside, even for a short walk, can help you to burn more calories and improve your health and fitness. More intense exercise can also improve your mood by boosting the adrenaline and serotonin levels in your brain.

Human Contact

Modern life, despite being ever connected, is lonely. Getting away from your computer and getting outside makes you more likely to connect with real people. The internet is great, but when it comes to a mood boost, nothing beats human contact.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity?
