Small, Everyday Ways to Truly Start Loving Yourself

Learning to love yourself is not always easy for everyone. Many of us struggle with this, and a lot of our self-doubt unfortunately comes from outward appearance. Vanity isn’t the goal in life, but you should definitely feel comfortable and confident in the way you look. That’s not something you need to do for anyone else - it’s something you HAVE to do for yourself. After all, true beauty comes from loving yourself. Confidence is the most attractive quality of all because it means that you’re happy with who you are. If you want to reach that level, then here are some good places to start…

Get your beauty sleep.
We’ve all heard people saying they need their “beauty sleep”, but it’s not just a cute term in pop culture. There’s a science to beauty sleep. After all, why do we need to rest? Well, it’s integral to staying physically and mentally healthy. That should go without saying, right? Yet, so many people in the modern world are sleep-deprived. A good night’s rest is viewed as non-essential in today’s society. If you feel tired then the problem can be solved with a cup of coffee. However, that’s only going to mask one of the symptoms of the problem. Denying your body and your mind the sleep that they both so desperately need will have many other negative effects of which you might not be aware.
Being sleep-deprived affects your health on so many levels. It weakens your immune system, and that’ll mean you’re more prone to colds and illnesses. It slows your metabolism, negatively impacts your cardiovascular health, and massively depletes your mental wellbeing. If you’ve been denying yourself sleep so that you can stay productive then you’re bodying your body a disservice.  It lowers your concentration and exacerbates mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. But there are so many physical downsides too. If you want to improve the quality of your skin and just give yourself a healthier glow then start sleeping properly. It’ll not only benefit your appearance but your mental state. In turn, you’ll have a brighter perspective with regards to your appearance. Loving yourself really does start with beauty sleep.
Be kind to yourself.
One of the best ways to start loving yourself and appreciating your true beauty is to just simply be kinder to yourself.  Shun negative thoughts and replace them with positive forms of thinking. You can start by looking in the mirror every morning. This might not be something you enjoy doing, but in time that will begin to change. Start by finding 5 compliments to give yourself every day. Once you start picking out the positive aspects of your appearance, you’ll change your self-perception. Improving your thoughts with regards to your body is all about finding a more positive way to view yourself and ignoring the harsh critic in your brain.

Up Your Fashion Game.
When it comes to feeling beautiful, the way you dress can play a big part in this. Some of us put fashion on the back-burner because we don’t see it as a priority in our lives. However, regardless of your natural appearance, the right wardrobe can help give you confidence and comfort rolled into one. There is no perfect body shape.  It’s important to dress in a way that is flattering to- not just your physique, but your personality too. You should make sure that your wardrobe looks tailor-made entirely to you, in other words. This is how you’ll show the world that you really give attention to detail and actually care about what goes on your body.
Accessories are essential to the look as well. With regards to making your outfit look well-fitted, for instance, a belt could turn a loose and shapeless dress into a shapely and stylish outfit that complements your figure. Don’t be fooled into thinking that only the elite know what they’re doing when it comes to the clothes and accessories they adorn. You might want to make a big statement with an accessory such as a custom initial pendant. This personal touch will really help you to stamp your identity on your outfit as a whole. Confidence really is key when it comes to loving yourself and appreciating your beauty.
Try Meditation.
If you really want to start loving yourself and appreciating both your inner and outer beauty then you might want to try meditating. This is a fantastic way to improve both your physical and mental health. You’re probably aware of meditation being used as a powerful tool on one’s journey towards mental wellbeing and enlightenment, but you might not have realized that it can benefit the health of your body too. Still, as I’ve explained throughout this article, the mind and the body are closely linked, so it makes sense that meditation would benefit your physical health as well as your mental health. Reducing stress levels can benefit the health of your heart, so it’s definitely worthwhile to start finding the time for meditation if you want to improve your wellbeing.
On your journey to loving yourself and appreciating your beauty, meditating can really help you to unlock the gates. It takes practice and it might feel weird to sit still and focus on the present rather than letting your mind run wild. Plenty of mindfulness techniques can help you to learn the art of calming your busy mind. By focusing on your breathing, for instance, you can start to appreciate the present moment and control anxious thoughts. Once you achieve more of a zen-like state of being, you’ll be able to appreciate your inner worth. In turn, you’ll see your true beauty when you look in the mirror. Loving your appearance is about appreciating your inner and outer worth in a manner that is unrelated to social constructs and preconceived concepts of the perfect body.
