I try not to get too upset about getting old. This year I turned 38 and I always say that any day spent above ground is a day to be thankful for. I've always believed that growing older is a privilege that many do not have the opportunity to experience. So, I'm grateful for my age and all that I have acquired going through life. I've even begin to look forward to some aspects of growing older like:  the amazing life experiences, expert-level shenanigans, and having a powerful chunk of grey hair growing from my frizzy/curly mane. I've seen countless pictures of older African-American women have a head full of gray hair or have chunky sections of gray hair growing in front of their hair and I always thought it looked so regal, like this cocoa goddess below…

Unfortunately my gray hair is coming in tiny little strands all over my head and quite frankly I'm a little disappointed. LOL I just knew I would have had this lightning streak of wisdom as a badge of honor but, no I don't. So, sometimes I'll always think that it is such a waste that the majority of my hair is still black but I'm coloring my entire head just for a few strands.

So, when I heard about Gray Away, I was delighted to be able to give it a try and see if it would work for me.  Gray Away comes in a convenient Temporary Root Concealer Spray or Root Touch-Up Quick Stick format.  I tried both and they were very simple to use.  I think my favorite might be the stick for single gray coverage.  I like the spray for bigger sections and for covering up gunk between washes that I want to hide.  Yes, it worked for that too.  I tend to stretch my wash days out so this is a BIG plus!  It’s fast, it’s easy and it’s private.  No more salon visits just for grays!  I can save my money for when I decided to dye my hair electric pink!  LOL

Before:  see those strands around my eyes and how my hair has a gray sheen from product buildup?

Gray Away is now a part of my makeup routine.  It’s a lifesaver because I don’t have to wash my hair to apply the color.  I just swipe and go.  Just like putting on my daily face!  I like the gray coverage that it provides but it also covered up if I’m in between wash days.  Which as a non-relaxed, natural-haired girl, this is vital because product can build up and cast a dull look over our hair.  It’s also a plus that it doesn’t streak or drip.  It dried pretty quickly and I’m able to put my clothes on afterwards with no issues. Every bottle/stick has around 40 applications so I'm good to go for a whileeeee.  It’s an easy, quick an affordable way to cover up those grays until you’re ready for them to be seen.

You can pick up Gray Away at your local Walmart and check out the ibotta app to even earn cash back on your purchase.  It’s also available at CVS Pharmacy and ULTA Beauty.
Until Next Time...

  1. First of all...this was such a fun read! I'm also in awe of women with beautiful gray patches in their manes but if my family genetics have their way with me (and I'm sure they will), I will not gray for a while BUT I will wake up one day and look in the mirror like "who is this woman?!" LOL Yep. The women in my family tend go gray late and all at once.
The few strands I have are all in the center and blend because my hair is always in a bond, but I'll be getting a silk press soon and will definitely have gray away in hand when I go to the salon. If I'm feeling generous, I may even share my little secret with the other gals! 😉😂
