Serving Face Beauty Brunch with Freddie L. Young – Recap

Being a blogger/creator, I have the pleasure of meeting a lot of incredible people. I've also had the opportunity to watch their talents grow and bloom in their own creative spaces.  I've known Freddie L Young since high school. Back then, he was our High School's first male cheerleader and he caused quite an uproar that I took sheer delight in.  I knew even then that he was a trendsetter in the making but I had no idea of the magnitude of his creativity and talent.  Over the years, I have watched him grow into an amazing professional makeup artist that has done work for music videos, television productions, live performances, celebrity appearances  and has even created his own line of cosmetics.  My Adventures over the weekend included attending his first beauty brunch & makeup class.  I’m so excited to tell you guys all about it.  Here's a recap of the event:

When we first arrived we were welcomed with swag bags that were personalized with our names across the front. It was such a sweet and personal touch to add to the traditional swag bags from events.  If you keep up with my Instagram stories, you’ll find that swag bags are my FAVORITE part of events.  LOL   Next we had a fabulous brunch catered by Jelon Smart of Cocktail Hour Catering & Event Consulting.  I finally got to taste those collard green wontons- her signature dish that facebook went CRAZY over.  They were amazing!  All of the brunch favorites were included in the spread. An amazing grits bar, fresh fruit and several drink options where available. After eating, Freddie was introduced and the class began.  He used gorgeous model, DeAundra Lay’Dee White as his canvas and we all raved over the gorgeous cheekbones on this statuesque Beauty.

Now makeup is usually something that intimidates me.  I have my usual routine and I stick with that.  My signature look is a bold lip and deep brows- nothing too difficult.  I’ve desired to do more but never had the guts.  I’m always afraid that I’ll mess it up and get frustrated.  Freddie carefully explained each step as he worked and had us all feeling like we could walk out of there and do a full beat ourselves the next day!  The proper products for different skin types, the correct brush to use for the intended coverage and the best shades to use for shading were all techniques that were discussed in great detail and in a way that was easy for us all to understand.  He was very attentive and took the time to answer the TONS of questions that we had.  I never thought that I would even attempt contouring and highlighting on my own, but Freddie gave amazing encouragement and made it look easy.  Well…..maybe not easy but at least somewhat possible?!  LOL    The finished look on DeAundra was simply stunning!  He even finished her look with a bold lip (which stole my heart) from his own Selfish Matte Liquid Lipstick line.
